Purchased the Vizio VX200E 20″ HDTV last night at Sam’s Club for 0. I had been considering a Samsung LN19B360 19″ HDTV to replace our older non-HD Samsung 19″ LCD on the kitchen counter. The Vizio VX200E caught my eye with a great picture, larger yet still compact size plus a lower price compared to the Samsung… so off I went with the Vizio. I’m connected directly to the cable… no cable box, no outside antenna. When given the “Turn On” command, the set does take a few seconds to “warm up” before switching on, but that’s not a show-stopper. After going through the setup procedure, we were pleased to be watching a top-notch picture considering the price. Broadcast channels in HD over the cable look great on this set. Sound quality is satisfactory though a little hot on treble… haven’t tried to adjust sound or the picture/ color… default settings are quite good.
I bought this one televion my old standard definition CRT TV died in the middle of time for the digital transition. According to some, I compare across this TV and they chose to replace my old 19 "CRT. The first thing you notice CRT TV about this is its relative weightlessness, while common for flat panel displays is cumbersome's a nice change. Even setup is very simple and once connected to an HD digital cable box using one of the two HDMI connections the picture qualityDifference is immediate.
This HDTV is sleek, elegant, and chic. Beautiful styling, dark java finish and packed with features such as Full High Definition 1080p resolution, 120Hz Smooth Motion technology and 50,000:1 contrast ratio for a beautifully bright, clear and fluid picture with less judder.
As a future college student, I have looked for, researched, and tried out many small HDTV’s to use as a computer monitor/HDTV for my dorm room. The employees at Best Buy stated that if a TV wasn’t over 46 inches big, you couldn’t tell the difference between 1080p and 720p. However, he didn’t know what he was saying. At relatively far distances (i.e. normal watching distance for most TV’s) the difference between 1080p and 720p is small to none. However, from a short distance (like 4 feet for a 42 inch, or 1.5 feet for a 24 inch) you can easily tell the difference in resolution. This is where this T.V. comes in. As a computer monitor, I will be close up to the screen, reading tiny text like the text in this review! Now that the main issue has been sorted out, it’s onto the main review:
OK, first let me just get the ecology-friendly “green” crap out of the way, which we probably do not care much about anyway since we just wanna watch the game/movie/show. The new Vizio eco-lines consume roughly 85 watts while running (.33 in standby), which is somewhat less than its predecessors. This will marginally, if at all, effect your electric bill (the switch over from plasma to LCD will save you enough as is), but you can sleep better at night knowing your new green television will save the rainforest for .000000000001 more seconds – that should give the animals plenty of time to duck and cover when the bulldozers come in.
It is a great tv. It is an older model but very much worth the shipping and amazon price (699ish)
